Reed Danziger September 9 - October 9, 2004 |

Reed Danziger constructs densely patterned, highly ornamental paintings that are a veritable bombardment of visual information and rhythmic patterns which mutate and regenerate across their surfaces. Obsessive and labor intensive, they are painted with a clarity and lightness of touch which belies their complexity and unpredictability. The surfaces are built up by overlaying decorative and ornamental designs derived from nature, abstracted motifs which make reference to materials and patterns found in the decorative arts, and schema that reference the world of science. Danziger's paintings reflect her fascination with the information overload of historical, cultural, and scientific references which defines our society. She is interested in how these sources are mitigated by memory and chance, and in her paintings she defies our efforts to strictly compartmentalize their sources. |   | ||||||
